ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's soccer team had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-1 double overtime loss to Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers fall to 4-1-1, 2-1 GLVC while the Tritons improve to 2-3, 1-2 GLVC.

Both sides had their chances in the first 15 minutes of the contest with UMSL's Garrett Bass putting a shot on goal in the sixth minute that was saved by Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/Kapfenburg).

Lewis had a pair of chances with Jayson Iniguez (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport Township) putting on a shot on goal in the eighth minute and Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) had a chance in the 13th minute.

The Tritons broke the scoreless deadlock in the 23rd minute. Leo Sowa put a shot on goal that was deflected by Doppelhofer but the rebound came out to Drew Schenk who scored into the open goal for his first of the season.

The Flyers got the equalizer in the 34th minute on Joram Bogers (Noord-Brabant, Netherlands/Mill-Hill College) first goal of the season with an assist from Ayden Henegar (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove). Lewis had a chance to take the lead later in the half but Edrik Padilla's (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) shot was saved.

The Flyers held a 5-3 advantage in shots and 4-3 in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

Lewis had a chance to take the lead 15 minutes into the second half when Mwanga was fouled in the penalty box by Nick Schreiber. Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) took the kick from the penalty spot and tried to go to the lower right corner but Jordan Hurt read it and made the save.

The Flyers had another chance in the 68th minute but Sebastian Arguello's (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) attempt was saved by Hurt.

Lewis appeared to score the game-winner with 0:29 left in the first overtime but the play was ruled offsides negating the goal.

UMSL won the game 31 seconds into the second overtime as Doppelhofer committed a foul in the penalty box and was given a yellow card resulting in a penalty kick Sowa who beat Doppelhofer to the upper left corner for the game-winner.

The Flyers finished the contest with a 10-9 advantage in shots but each team had six shots on goal. The Tritons had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lewis returns to the pitch on Friday (Sept. 24) as it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on the second ranked Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. (CDT).
