EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Lewis University's men's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped in a 67-57 loss against Southern Indiana at Screaming Eagle Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers drop to 6-6, 4-1 GLVC while the Screaming Eagles improve to 9-4, 4-3 GLVC.

Lewis led by as many as eight in the opening half after a three-pointer from Anthony Sayles Jr. (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame College Prep) with 4:23 to go. USI made a late run to cut the deficit to four on a jumper by Isiah Stafford with 0:15 left in the half but Bruno Williams (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 0:02 remaining to give the Flyers a 31-24 advantage at the intermission.

Lewis extended its lead to eight on a jumper by Williams 4:37 into the second half but the Screaming Eagles continued to hang around cutting the deficit to three with 13:11 to play after a pair of Tyler Dancy free throws.

The Flyers pushed their lead back to seven thanks to a 5-1 run capped by a breakaway dunk from Sayles Jr. but that would b their last field goal for over seven minutes as they went cold from the field and USI took advantage of it.

The Eagles took its first lead of the game at 48-46 on a jumper from Isiah Swope at the 6:43 mark. Lewis trailed by four with less than four minutes to go but couldn't get any closer than that down the stretch as USI hit 11 of its last 12 free throws to pull away for the 10-point victory.

Williams led three Flyers in double figures with 18 points while Connor Niego (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) added 13 and Sayles Jr. finished with 11 off the bench. Lewis shot 39 percent, only 35 percent in the second half, from the floor and were 7-of-23 from three and shot only 53 percent at the foul line.

Jacob Polakovich led the Screaming Eagles with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Elijah Jones and Swope added 11 and 10 points respectively. USI shot 35 percent (19-for-55) from the floor, was 5-of-18 from three and shot 80 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded the Flyers 52-24.

Lewis continues its four-game road trip next Thursday at Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
