(4) Lewis Women’s Soccer Season Comes to an end in GLVC Quarterfinals Sunday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Illinois-Springfield 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Sunday (Oct. 30) at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers had three separate shots on goal that could have possibly changed their postseason fate, but Illinois-Springfield's Allison Mirimanian made three saves.

HALF BREAKDOWN

  • Neither team was able to score a goal in the first half and while Lewis only attempted one shot in the first period, Illinois-Springfield attempted four.
  • The Prairie Stars went on the attack early, attempting two shots within the first 3 and a half minutes of action.
  • Jones had the first opportunity to score for the Flyers at the 33:23 mark but the kick towards the low right end of the goal was saved by the Illinois-Springfield goalkeeper.
  • All four shot attempts by the Prairie Stars in the first period did not require Lewis' goalkeeper Nielsen to make a save.

  • Sengstock looked to put the Flyers on the scoreboard just a little over three minutes into the second period but her shot was saved.
  • Four minutes later at the 52:37 mark, Nielsen made her only save of the afternoon on a goal attempt by Abby Dellamorte.
  • Illinois-Springfield's Sierra Cenek scored the lone goal of the game at the 59:31 mark off the pass from Madison Grandys. 
  • The Prairie Stars had two more shots on goal in attempt to extend the lead but to no avail.
  • Lewis only took two shots in the second period and committed three fouls.
  • Illinois-Springfield goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian had recorded two of her three saves in the second period.
