Lewis Baseball Drops Final Two Games At No. 8 Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lewis University's baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader on Saturday at No. 8 Trevecca Nazarene 12-8 and 4-1. The Flyers fall to 0-3 on the season while the Trojans improve to 6-1.
 
Game 1 – Trojans 12 Lewis 8
 
The Flyers got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first highlighted by a Michael Alt (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) leadoff walk, Cherokee Lebeau (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) single, and an RBI single by Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) to make it 1-0. Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) had an RBI ground out to second to score Lebeau to make it 2-0. The Trojans answered with one in the bottom half of the first on a wild pitch to score Jordan Jackson.
 
Trevecca took the lead in the bottom of the third scoring two runs on a RBI single by Jackson and a wild pitch to score Shawn Wallwork. The Trojans added two more in the fourth on a two-out, two RBI single by Jackson to increase their lead to 5-2.
 
The Trojans scored seven times in the sixth inning highlighted by bases loaded walks by Wallwork, Paxton Hughes, Henry Mosley, and Zeke Lecomte. Braden Odom had a two-RBI double later in the inning to increase their lead to 12-2.
 
Lewis answered back with two runs of their own in the seventh and three runs in the eighth highlighted by Alt's single to score Gavin Kriegel (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) in the seventh. The eighth inning runs for the Flyers came from Fox's RBI double scoring Barry, Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East) tagging up on a foul out on the infield, and a Kriegel single to score Fox.
 
The Flyers scored one in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Dalton Crowder (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) with the bases loaded after a walk by Alt and singles by both Lebeau and Barry. The Trojans pitcher Lee Cunningham closed out game one for Trevecca getting freshman Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) to ground out to second.
 
Lewis outhit the Trojans 14-11 in the contest and were led by Barry and Lebeau with three hits each while Gavin Kriegel (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) added two more.
 
John Hanscom (0-1) suffered the loss allowing five runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
 
Game 2 – Trojans 4 Lewis 1
 
Lewis took an early lead in game two as Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) had a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Lebeau who reached on an error.
 
The Trojans scored four unanswered runs in the bottom of the third on three hits highlighted by an RBI single by Jordan Jacks and a run scoring double by Roland Ryan.
 
The Flyers were held to five hits in the nightcap and were led by Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) with two.
 
Michael Sclafani (Oak Brook, Ill./Montini Catholic) (0-1) suffered the loss allowing four runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. Ben Davis (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and Jake Lotz (Palos Hills, Ill./St. Laurence) were strong out of the bullpen pitching a combined five innings with ten strikeouts to keep the score within three.
 
Lewis returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 1 as they take on crosstown rival St. Francis (Ill.) at Dupage Medical Field in Joliet at 2 p.m.
