GREENSBURG, Pa. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team defeated fourth ranked Seton Hill 14-13 in the season opener for both squads on Sunday (Feb. 6) at Dick's Field in Greensburg, Pa. Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) scored the game-winning goal with 2:26 remaining in the contest.

The Griffins (0-1) got on the board scoring 0:31 into the contest but the Flyers (1-0) scored four of the next five goals in the period to take a 4-2 advantage into the second quarter. Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School), Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central), Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) all scored for Lewis in the opening stanza.

The Flyers added to their lead scoring three times in the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the break. Dalep added his second of the contest less than four minutes into the frame and later in the frame Evan Clement (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) scored twice in the span of 3:06.

SHU scored five of the first six goals to begin the third quarter to cut Lewis' lead to 8-7 halfway through the frame but the Flyers got goals from Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) and Hunter Loprino (Woodstock, Ill./St. Viator) late in the stanza to take a 10-7 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.

The Griffins scored three times in less than 3:30 minutes into the final stanza to even the score at 10. Dalep gave Lewis the lead back with 8:43 to go for his third of the afternoon with an assist from Andre. However, the lead didn't last long as Seton Hill scored twice in the span of 2:21 to take its first lead since early in the contest at 12-11.

The Flyers evened the score shortly after the Griffins took the lead as Mark Crowley (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) scored an unassisted goal with 5:37 to go. SHU answered less than a minute later as Andy Davis scored his third of the contest to give the Griffins their final lead of the contest with 4:43 remaining.

Lewis tied the contest at 13 on Baden Boyenko's (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada/St. Joseph) first goal of the season with an assist from Hunter Loprino (Woodstock, Ill./St. Viator) with 3:20 left and less than a minute later Boyenko found Kask for the game-winner.

The Flyer defense forced two turnovers in the final two-plus minutes of the game to secure its first victory over a ranked opponent in program history.

Dalep led Lewis with three goals while Stone and Clement added two apiece. Andre finished with three assists in the contest. The Flyers were outshot in the contest 45-42 but were 4-of-8 in extra man opportunities while Seton Hill was only 2-for-7.

Lewis opens the home portion of its 2022 schedule hosting Wheeling (W.Va.) on Saturday (Feb. 12) at 11 a.m. at Lewis Stadium.
