AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Lewis University's baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision against Minnesota Crookston on Monday evening at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida. The Flyers drop to 2-6 on the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 6-9.
The Flyers scored two runs early in the bottom half of the first on three hits. Cherokee LeBeau singled to right field and
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) blasted a triple over the right fielder's head to score their first run of the game.
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Barry.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the top half of the fourth inning scoring one run after Ben Thoma walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored second and scored later on a groundout to short.
Minnesota Crookston scored four runs on two hits in the fifth inning after a leadoff single and a two-run homerun by Tyler Jochen. The Golden Eagles scored their final two runs of the inning on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly from Thoma scoring Brad Morris.
Lewis answered back with one of their own in the fifth.
Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill/Lincoln Way East) reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on another wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Barry.
The Golden Eagles added two to their lead in the top of the ninth on RBI singles by Jake Hjelle and Brad Morris to increase their lead to 7-3.
The Flyers scored one run in the bottom of the ninth on a pinch-hit solo homerun to right field by freshman
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic).
Johnathan Hanscom (0-2) suffered the loss giving up five runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out seven and walking three in five innings of work.
Golden Eagles pitcher Jake Dykhoff (3-1) picked up his third win of the season pitching six innings giving up two earned runs on six hits, one walk, and striking out five. Brody Sorenson picked up his first save of the season as he pitched the final three innings.
