INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lewis University women's tennis team was defeated by No. 7 Indianapolis 7-0 Saturday (April 2) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams. The Flyers fall to 9-4 on the year, while the Greyhounds improve to 10-2.
The Greyhounds earned the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, the Flyer duo of
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) fell 6-1 to Anna Novikova and Maria Solnyshkina.
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) fell to Maissane Aik and Arina Amaning 6-2 at No. 2, while
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) and
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove)Â lost 6-2 at No. 3 to Isabella Dunlap and Sofia Sharonova.
In singles, Salenko lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 to Novikova, Zafeiri fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 to Dunlap, Smith lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 to Aik, Vujanic fell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4 to Amaning, Reisch lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 to Lea Cakarevic and Sueflohn lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 to Solnyshkina.
The Flyers face Roosevelt Monday at 2:30 p.m. at home.
