ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's 66th ranked women's tennis team secured a spot in the 2022 GLVC Tournament with a sweep of Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon at the Vaughn Athletic Center in Aurora, Ill. The Flyers improve to 14-6, 4-2 GLVC while the Screaming Eagles fall to 7-9, 0-5 GLVC.
Lewis won the first two doubles matches to take the opening point of the match. The duo of
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) beat Abby Brown and Chloe McIsaac 6-2 in the second doubles match.
Nefeli Zafeiri (Greece) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) defeated Lauren Rowe and Rachel McCorkle 6-4.
The Flyers won all six singles matches. Smith opened the singles portion of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brown at No. 3 singles. Reisch followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over McIsaac in the fifth singles match and
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) swept Kylie Skepnek 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 six singles.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) beat Abby Myers 6-1, 6-3, Salenko knocked off Rowe in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and Zafeiri closed the match with an 8-5 win over McCorkle.
Lewis' next match will take place in the GLVC Tournament next Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. Opponents and times will be announced early next week.
