DETROIT, Mich. - The No. 52 Lewis University men's tennis team fell to No. 10 Wayne State 4-0 Monday (May 9) in a NCAA Division II Regional match at the Detroit Mercy Titans Tennis Courts. The Flyers end their season with a 14-9 record, while the Warriors move to 22-4 on the year.
Wayne State earned the doubles point as the No. 2 doubles team of Luke Laws and Dom Spicer defeated
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) 6-1, while the No. 3 team of Niklas Karcz and Ben Lakeman won 6-2 over the Lewis tandem of
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland) and
Andrej Zoranovic (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada).
In singles, the Flyers fell at No. 2 as Lakeman defeated Lusti 7-5, 6-2, while Wierzbicki lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 to Cedric Drenth and Zoranovic fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 to Laws.
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia/) lost his first set 7-5 at No. 1 singles in an unfinished match to Spicer,
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) won his first set 6-4 at No. 3 singles in his unfinished match against Karcz and Trifunovic split his sets at No. 4, falling 6-2 and winning 6-3 against Daniel Grey.
