Women's Volleyball Defeat McKendree Saturday; Records Second Straight Sweep

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 15 Lewis University women's volleyball team defeated McKendree 3-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at the Neil Carey Arena on Saturday, Sept. 17.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, McKendree 16

  • Lewis had 18 kills in the first set.
  • Tied after 10 through the first 20 points, Lewis was able to go on a 15-6 run to end the first set.
  • The Flyers were able to capture the first set 25-16 after Ray notched her fifth kill of the set.

SECOND SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, McKendree 20

  • Stefanski scored the first two points of the second set for the Flyers, before McKendree was able to score two straight and tie the score at two.
  • McKendree was never able to take the lead in the second set as Lewis scored the next four points, taking a 6-2 lead that eventually lead to a 12-7 lead for the Flyers half way through the set.
  • Lewis posted its largest lead of the set at 20-12 after a Schlechte kill, but McKendree managed to cut the lead to three after back-to-back kills from Colleen Preuser.
  • Lewis scored three of the final four points and had a game-high total of 19 kills to claim the second set.

THIRD SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, McKendree 20

  • The third began with both teams trading the first four points, before Lewis scored seven of the next 11 points to grab a 10-5 lead.
  • After Lewis scored four straight points to take a 14-7 lead, McKendree answered back with a 9-2 run to tie the set at 16.
  • Lewis managed to end the set on a 9-4 run, capped off with two aces by Zeiser to end the game.

Final Score: No. 15 Lewis 3, McKendree 0

  • No. 15 Lewis will be back in action Friday, September 23 as the Flyers travel to the University of Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds starting at 5 p.m. CT.
