Lewis Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game to Southwest Baptist Saturday

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Lewis University's men's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to Southwest Baptist, 77-65, Saturday.

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to a 7-2 lead after a basket by Hill. Southwest Baptist responded by tying the contest up before the Flyers went on a 11-4 run capped off by a three-pointer by Vanderheydt. 

The Flyers went up 28-21 later in the first half after a three-pointer by Sayles. The Bearcats went on a 9-2 run to close out the first half to make it a two-point game with Lewis leading 30-28.

Both teams traded baskets for the first three minutes before Kirciman made back-to-back layups to make it 39-33 with 16:55 to play in the game. Atakan Sahinkaya (Istanbul, Turkey/Troy State) knocked down a three to make it 44-37 with 13:58 to go in the game. 

SW Baptist responded with seven straight points the next two minutes to tie the game at 44-all. Frericks made a pair free throws to regain the lead before the Bearcats grabbed their first lead with 10:52 to go after making a three-pointer. 

Under 10 minutes to play, Lewis led 50-47 then SWB scored 12 straight points to grab a 59-50 lead with 7:45 remaining. Lewis tried to respond after making it 60-54 Bearcats but SWB went on another run, scoring 10 straight points, which made it 70-54. 

Southwest Baptist was able to hold on the rest of the way to their double digit lead. The Bearcats defeated the Flyers, 77-65.
