Flyers Defeat Purdue Northwest 75-66 Saturday To Pick Up First Win Of Season

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team defeated Purdue Northwest 75-66 Saturday (Nov. 18) at Neil Carey Arena.

SUMMARY
The two teams went back-and-forth early in the game before a 12-0 run from the Flyers put them ahead 19-7 with 3:33 left in the first quarter. Hilber scored seven points during the run. Lewis led 19-12 after one quarter.

The Pride got to within five right away in the second quarter, but Lewis came back with a 9-1 run to pull ahead 28-15 with 6:17 left in the half behind five points from Hilber and four from Cierra McNamee (Moline, Ill.).

Lewis continued the run from there, outscoring Purdue Northwest 14-1 to finish the half and take a 42-19 lead into the break. Badali and Gugliuzza had four points each during the run.

Purdue Northwest cut into the deficit in the first 3:30 of the third quarter, making it a 44-28 game. A basket by Schmidt and a pair of free throws from Badali pushed the lead back to 20. The lead was cut back to 15 before a 12-4 run to end the half made it 62-39 Flyers after three quarters.

The Pride scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter before a Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) basket halted the run. The lead remained in double digits until the final minute of the contest.

The Flyers open Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday (Nov. 25) when Maryville visits Neil Carey Arena at 1 p.m.
