Lewis Men's Soccer Season Ends in Final Four; Falls to Reigning National Champion Franklin Pierce 3-2 Thursday

MATTHEWS, NC -- The Lewis University men's soccer team's season came to an end as the Flyers fell to reigning national champion Franklin Pierce 3-2 in the NCAA DII Final Four at the Matthews Sportsplex Thursday (Dec. 7).

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Franklin Pierce 1, Lewis 0
Revell tried to quickly score to start the match but it was off target. Franklin Pierce responded on the attack as Aaron Sanchez Sanchez found Younes Addar Khanoussi for the goal in the eighth minute which made it 1-0. 

The Ravens looked to quickly make it 2-0 with a pair of shots but one was off target and Doppelhofer saved the other one. Revell went on the attack for the Flyers looking to knot it up at 1 but FPU's goalie saved it. 

FPU recorded four more shots in the first half but none found the back of the net including a pair of saves by Doppelhofer. Kuba Chrapczynski (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) looked to tie the match right before the half but his shot went out right. 
 
SECOND HALF: Lewis 2, Franklin Pierce 2
Franklin Pierce came out of the second half looking to take a 2-0 lead early but their shot went out top right. Lewis was able to tie the contest at 1 after Revell found Gorodnickis and his shot found the back of the net.
  The Ravens looked to respond a few minutes later but it was off target. Carlback was able to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead after converting a penalty kick goal in the 62'.  FPU was able to respond two minutes later and tie the contest in the 64th minute as Addar Khanoussi converted on his second goal of the contest. The Ravens moved quickly looked to take the lead after firing off numerous shots but Doppelhofer was able to save them.

Franklin Pierce broke through and took the lead in the 77' after Rodrigo Parafita Bestilleiro found Antonio Lampreia Lima for the goal to make it 3-2. FPU recorded five more shots the rest of the way looking to build on its lead but Doppelhofer picked up three saves to keep the score 3-2.

Lewis finishes the season 13-4-6 after making the program's third ever trip to the NCAA DII Final Four.
