Lewis Men’s Basketball Honors Seniors on Saturday Against Rockhurst

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team honored their seniors Saturday (Feb. 18) but the Flyers lost their contest to Rockhurst, 69-66.

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to a 10-0 lead capped off by a layup by Frericks. Rockhurst looked to respond and cut it down to 16-9 with under 10 minutes left in the game. 

The Flyers led 26-17 with a three-pointer by Sayles before Rockhurst responded with a 10-3 run to make it 29-27 Lewis. Frericks made a floater to make it 33-27 with 1:42 left before the half. 

Rockhurst closed out the first half on a 8-0 run to grab a 35-33 lead. 

Zrnic and Austin Boucher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Don Bosco Prep) made back-to-back layups to start the second half to regain the 37-35 lead. Both teams traded three pointers the next few minutes. 

Rockhurst led 53-50 with 10:57 left looking to put the game away. The Hawks held onto their lead most of the way throughout the rest the game. 

Lewis cut it down to 58-57 in favor of Rockhurst with 5:21 left in the game after a three-pointer by Sayles. The Hawks responded with five straight points to gain a 63-57 lead. 

Sayles made a 3-pointer to cut it back down to one (63-62) with under three minutes left. Rockhurst held onto their slimmest lead and Hill kept it a 1-point game after a pair of free throws with 38 seconds left.

Rockhurst held on and won the contest 69-66.

Lewis will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 23 as the Flyers travel to Missouri S&T starting at 7:30 p.m. CT.
