Lewis Women's Lacrosse Falls to UCCS Friday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse suffered a setback on their final day of their Colorado trip Friday (March 10) as the Flyers dropped their contest 20-13 to UC-Colorado Springs at Mountain Lion Stadium. 

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 8, Lewis 3
  • UCCS scored the first five goals of the contest in the opening quarter to grab a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes.
  • Alyssa Davidson (Geneva, IL/Geneva) was able to get the Flyers on the scoreboard with 9:44 to play in the first quarter. 
  • Meltonique Bowen (Pembroke Pines, FL/Flanagan) made it 5-2 after recording her first goal of the contest and eighth of the season.
  • The Mountain Lions scored the next three goals to extend the lead to 8-2. 
  • Carlie Serritella (Chicago, IL/Resurrection) scored her ninth goal of the season to cut the deficit down to 8-3 after receiving the ball from Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley)
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 4, UCCS 1
  • Paige Bracey (Apex, NC/Apex) started a huge second quarter for the Flyers after connecting on her eighth goal of the season to make it 8-4.
  • UCCS got right one back for their only goal of the second quarter to extend their lead out to 9-4.
  • The Flyers scored the final three goals of the first half to make it 9-7 Mountain Lions at the break.
  • Bowen scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season which gave her a hat trick and Daniella Winterlik (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Terry Fox) connected on her third goal of the season. 
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 5, Lewis 2
  • UCCS responded in the third quarter after scoring the first three goals of the second half to make it 12-7.
  • Meredith was able to connect with Heidi Sweeney (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster) for her fifth goal of the season.
  • The Mountain Lions got one back to keep their lead at five (13-8) with 7:34 left in the third. 
  • Emma Stanek (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North) found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. 
  • The Mountain Lions made it 14-9 in the closing seconds of the third quarter after scoring a goal.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 5, Lewis 2
  • UCCS opened up the fourth quarter with the first goal, making it 15-9 Mountain Lions.
  • Bowen recorded her team-high fourth goal of the contest around 30 seconds later.
  • The Mountain Lions scored the next four goals to extend their lead out to 19-10.
  • Bracey and Stanek were able to score their second goals of the game to make it a seven goal deficit. 
  • UCCS scored its final goal of the game with 13 seconds to play to give them 20 for the day.
  • Bowen added to her total for the day and scored her fifth of the game which made it 20-13 UCCS.
FINAL SCORE: UCCS 20, Lewis 13

Lewis will be back in action Thursday, March 23 as the Flyers take on Missouri Baptist starting at 3 p.m. inside Lewis Stadium.
