Lewis Baseball Throws 11th No Hitter in Program History; Defeats Davis & Elkins College 27-0 Saturday

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Lewis University baseball team threw a combined no-hitter and had a huge day offensively as the Flyers defeated Davis & Elkins College 27-0 at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex Field 2 Saturday (March 4).  Jake Karaba (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Ray Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) and Dru Jasnoch (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) all pitched in the no-hitter, the 11th in program history.

SUMMARY
Lewis put up a three spot in the top of the first inning to give it an early 3-0 lead. Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) started the scoring with a RBI double, which scored Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian)Jack Blazevich (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) ripped a RBI single, which scored Krol and Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) reached on an error, scoring Blazevich. 

Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) made it 4-0 in the second with his RBI groundout, scoring George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist).  Lewis scored two more in the third to extend the lead out to 6-0 after Blazevich stole home and David Ascencio (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) ripped a RBI double that scored Everett.

Fox extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth after his RBI double knocked home Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly). Lewis broke the game open in the fifth with a nine run inning. 

Everett connected on his first home run of the season scoring Blazevich, then Alt ripped a two-run double scoring Bilecki and Ascenio. Fox hit his third round tripper of the season which scored Alt and Blazevich recorded his first homer of the season, scoring Krol and Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin)

Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) extended the lead out to 18-0 after connecting on his second home run of the season, Lewis' fourth of the contest. The Flyers put up another crooked number in the seventh after scoring nine more times in the frame to make it 27-0.

Gavin Kriegel (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) scored on a passed ball and Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) followed with a RBI groundout which scored Tony Fleischauer (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic)Dalton Crowder (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) ripped a two-run double, scoring McDevitt and Keaty, Kriegel recorded a two-run double that scored Crowder and John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), Fleischauer hit a RBI double scoring Kriegel and Keaty reached base on an error that scored Fleischauer. 

Karaba (1-0) picked up the win on the mound after throwing five spotless innings without allowing a hit or throwing a walk and striking out 14.  Cantelo and Jasnoch both pitched scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh and recorded a strikeout each.

Lewis will be back in action Sunday, March 5 as the Flyers take on West Virginia Wesleyan starting at noon.
