Lewis Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Rockhurst in GLVC Championship Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lewis University men's lacrosse team lost to No. 2 seed Rockhurst in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship with the Hawks winning 9-8 Sunday (May 7).

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 2, Rockhurst 2
  • Clement started the scoring in the game after receiving the ball from Kai George (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster Secondary School) to make it 1-0.
  • Rockhurst tied the game at 1-1 with 8:05 to play in the first.
  • Lewis responded after Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, MN/Totino-Grace HS) found Paul Ruskoski (Tulsa, OK/Bishop Kelley HS) for the goal. 
  • The Hawks bounced back and knotted the score at 2-2 after they found the back of the net. 
SECOND QUARTER: Rockhurst 2, Lewis 1
  • Rockhurst scored a pair of goals to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead.
  • Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/) was able to get one back for the Flyers with 2:11 left in the first half. 
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 4, Rockhurst 2
  • Lewis started the scoring in the second half after Trevor Collier (Millersville, MD/Old Mill High School) found Jack Speers (Glenview, IL/) to tie it at 4-4.
  • The Hawks regained the lead after scoring the next goal with 8:25 to play in the third. 
  • Dominic Bravata (Portage, MI/Portage Northern HS) received the pass from Ruskoski and recorded a goal, which tied it at 5-5. 
  • Anthony Mattio (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North HS) gave the Flyers a 6-5 lead after finding the back of the net. 
  • Moments later the Hawks tied the game again at 6-6 with 5:31 left in the third. 
  • Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake Central HS) scored the final goal of the third period with 3:54 left, which made it 7-6. 
FOURTH QUARTER: Rockhurst 3, Lewis 1
  • Rockhurst tied it and took the lead after a pair of goals by Tyler Smith made it 8-7. 
  • The Hawks grabbed a two goal advantage after finding the back of the net to make it 9-7. 
  • Lewis looked to rally after Clement recorded his second goal of the game with 2:08 remaining in the game.
