Lewis Women's Soccer Defeats Purdue Northwest Tuesday

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Lewis University women's soccer team defeated Purdue Northwest 2-1 Tuesday (Sept. 5) in a nonconference contest at Pepsi Field in Dowling Park. Every goal during the match came in the opening 45 minutes.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 2, Purdue Northwest 1
Lewis attacked early in the contest during the first six minutes as Vargas recorded two shots on goal but PNW's goalkeeper recorded a pair of saves. 

Purdue Northwest struck first in the 10th minute as the Pride went up 1-0 after finding the back of the net.

Lewis responded two minutes later as the Flyers went on the attack as Culver found the back of the net off the pass from DeVaux.

The Pride looked to respond moments later, but Nielsen was right there for the save. 

The Flyers took the lead in the 17th minute as Aguilar had a corner kick, then DeVaux headed it in the net for the goal to make it 2-1.

PNW recorded a pair of shots for the rest of the first half but both were off target. 
 
Second Half: Purdue Northwest 0, Lewis 0
Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the second half. 

Purdue Northwest came out firing to start the second half but the Pride's shot was off target.

Lewis tried to build on its lead in the 51st minute with a shot by CosaBella Milazzo (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) but it went right. Ashley Klaus (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) had a scoring chance in the 53rd minute, but her shot attempt was saved.

The Flyers had two chances to build on its lead in the next 20 minutes but both shots from Culver and Aguilar were off target. 

Lewis had one more opportunity to score in the 77th minute after Jada Harvey (Roscoe, Ill./Rockford Christian) drove the field but her shot attempt was saved by PNW.

Lewis will be back in action Friday (Sept. 8) as the Flyers take on Northern Michigan at Lewis Stadium starting at 5 p.m.
