LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lewis University women's basketball team moved to 8-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 72-67 win over William Jewell Thursday (Jan. 11) at Mabee Center.

SUMMARY
William Jewell scored the first four points of the game and built as much as a 10-point lead at 15-5 with 1:01 left in the first quarter and led 15-6 after one.
The Flyers scored the first 16 points of the second quarter behind eight points from Schmidt during the run to pull ahead 22-15.
However, the Cardinal scored the next 12 points to regain a five-point lead.
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) hit a pair of free throws before the half to make it 27-24 at the break.
The Cardinal pushed the lead back up to seven at 34-27 with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter. Lewis answered with the next six points to cut the deficit back to one.
After a Cardinal basket the Flyers scored seven straight points, all from Schmidt, to pull ahead 40-36. Another William Jewell run put it back in front 49-44 after three quarters.
William Jewell held a 61-56 lead midway through the fourth quarter when Lewis made its final run. Badali opened it with a three-pointer. Free throws by
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) and a basket by Hilber gave the Flyers the lead back.
Another Badali three-pointer pushed the Flyer lead to 66-61 with 1:43 left. A Cardinal basket cut it back to three, but a pair of free throws from Badali and four from Schmidt sealed the victory.
