ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team won, 79-64, over Indianapolis Saturday (Jan. 27) at Neil Carey Arena.
Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) earned her second double-double of the season, tying a season-high with 21 points and earning a new season-best 13 rebounds in the win.

SUMMARY
UIndy started fast, hitting a pair of three-point shots to go up 6-0 early. Lewis got two threes of its own from Schmidt amidst a 9-4 run to get back within one point.
Later in the first, a 9-2 charge gave the Flyers its first lead of the game at 18-17. A pair of free throws by Badali kept Lewis in front, 20-18, at the end of the quarter. The Flyers grabbed five offensive rebounds in the opening frame and went 3/5 from beyond the three-point line.
The Greyhounds scored the first five points of the second to retake the advantage but McNamee made back-to-back layups to keep things close. A layup plus the foul and free throw by Gugliuzza put the Flyers back ahead, 29-28.
Lewis kept pushing, stretching out a 13-2 run to make it 37-30 for the largest lead of the game to that point. The Flyers finished the first half with two more trips to the free-throw line, hitting three for a 40-32 lead at halftime.
Lewis went 15/18 (.833) on free throws in the first half, securing 11 offensive rebounds. UIndy went 0-5 from deep in the second quarter, helping the Flyers build the lead.
Things went back-and-forth early in the third, with a jumper by Schmidt putting Lewis up by 10 for the first time. After a bucket by the Greyhounds, Hilber hit a three to make it 47-36 Flyers and prompt a UIndy timeout.
A few minutes later, it was Badali's turn to knock down a deep ball to kick off a 7-0 run that put Lewis' lead at 55-38. Indianapolis pushed back with a 7-1 charge, but the Flyers recovered to rebuild the lead to 13 points, 62-49, heading to the fourth.
Lewis opened the final frame going 4/5 from the field, with seven points from Gugliuzza, stretching the lead to 18 points at 71-53. From there, both offenses slowed down as the Flyers headed towards the victory.
Lewis subbed out its starters for the closing minutes and finished off the 79-64 win.
