ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team took down Missouri S&T, 92-66, Wednesday (Jan. 3) at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers shook off a slow start to score a season-high 92 points, setting new team-best marks in field goals (36) and field goal percentage (.554) for the year.

SUMMARY
Lewis got out to a slow start, as S&T's press defense put the Flyers out of rhythm with the Miners taking a 7-0 lead. Later in the first, a three by Hilber cut Lewis' deficit to three points at 12-9.
The Flyers got as close as two, but Missouri S&T was able to restore some cushion to its lead late in the frame, ending the quarter with a 25-18 advantage. The Miners were 10/15 (.667) from the field and 3/5 (.600) from three-point range.
Both sides committed two turnovers before scoring in the second then Lewis went on a 9-1 run with five points from Schmidt to take its first lead of the game at 29-28. Points continued to be hard to come by, as the second quarter was the game's lowest scoring frame.
The Flyers took a 36-34 lead into the locker room after a late layup by McNamee. Lewis held S&T to just 2/14 (.143) from the field in the second quarter while shooting 8/17 (.471) on its end.
In the third quarter, the Flyers started to pull away, going on a 16-6 run by scoring on seven of eight possessions. Lewis finished the frame with a 10-1 charge to build the lead up to 17 points at 64-47, shooting 11/15 (.733) from the floor in the quarter.
Missouri S&T tried to push back early in the fourth quarter, but didn't gain much ground. The Flyers' offense then got going again, with the lead hitting 20 points after a layup by Schmidt with 6:31 to play.
The Miners cut the deficit to 17 with a three-point play with 2:59 left, but Lewis would close the game with a 10-1 push to hit 90+ points for the first time this season. The Flyers enjoyed new season-highs in points by McNamee (17) and Kree Nunnaly (6).
