HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 1, Maryville 0
The word of the day for both sides was revenge. Lewis knocked Maryville out of the Elite Eight last season and Maryville was the only conference opponent to beat the Flyers this regular season. At the start of the match both squads brought a level of intensity which has been unseen throughout the entire tournament. Lewis kept a focus on their offensive half to start the game and tested out Saints defense to find the best way to score.

Darlage would find way with a high arcing through ball over the left shoulder of Asore, his speed gave him the hole he needed to move past the defense and put a shot past the Maryville keeper, Leiws lead 1-0.

The remainder of the first half was a battle for the Flyers as the struggled early with injuries and the tough physical play the game called for. The game was stuck in the midfield for a long time with neither team getting a strong offensive possession. Lewis would have three corner kicks in a row near the end of the half but the Saints would fight them off and maintain the one goal deficit.

Second Half: Lewis 1, Maryville 1
Coming out of halftime the Saints flipped the script very early. Ayden Henegar (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and Makonnen Stampley (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) did not play in the second half due to illness and Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East) was given a break at the start of the second half. With alot of fresh legs on the field, the Saints pushed the ball into the Flyers defense fast and shot the ball quickly. Finally a Saints offender got his own rebound off of a Doppelhofer save and the game was tied at one.

Both teams made numerous substitutions to try and find the right pieces to pull away from their opponent. Lewis had some good looks in the final minutes off the half, but the Maryville defense stayed strong and in front of any Lewis opportunity. The final seconds of the half came to a close and the Flyers brought alot of energy going into overtime.

Overtime One: Lewis 0, Maryville 0
With the new introduction of Golden Goal, Lewis used their shorter than usual lineup to try and get breakaways and one-on-ones to the goal. Maryville got a shot off in the first overtime which went wide left, and that was the only shot of the first overtime.

Overtime Two: Lewis 0, Maryville 0
Coming off of a PK win in the previous round of the tournament, Maryville did everything they could to end the match in overtime. Lewis once again has some more chances to close the match with a shot from Sam Abreu (Middleton, Wis./) from long distance and a point blank shot by Asore which went wide. The time ran out for both teams and no more would be put on the clock, as the game was sent to PKs.

Penalty Kicks: Lewis 5, Maryville 4
With Doppelhofer between the pipes, the objective was simple, score more goals than the other team. Erik Alqvist (Helsingborg, Sweden/Hittarps IK Football Club), Storm Johansen (Trondheim, Norway/Kristen Videregaaende Troendelag), Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois) and Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East) would make all of their attempts. Doppelhofer would come up big with an incredible save to raise the stakes so high, the overcast sky would break open and sun would shine on the pitch for the first time all day. Makonnen Stampley (Lockport, Ill./Lockport), would take the walk from half to the dot both alone and with the entire team on his shoulders. A combination of cheers and insults would be thrown but the Maryville crowd would be silenced as Stampley revved up and put his shot into the nylon, winning the game.

Final Score: Lewis 1, Maryville 1
