WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Lewis University softball team split their games Wednesday (March 13) during the third day of the PFX Spring Games. The Flyers fell to Slippery Rock, 2-1, then defeated New Haven, 9-3.
GAME 1: Slippery Rock 2, Lewis 1

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Slippery Rock struck first in the opening inning to grab a early 1-0 lead. SRU doubled its lead in the following inning to make it 2-0.
Lewis looked to rally in the sixth inning to either tie it or take the lead.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) was able to make it 2-1 after recording a RBI single which scored
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School).
That would be the only run the Flyers scored in the contest.
Maddie Hessing (Brimfield, IL/Brimfield High School) (0-1) took the loss in the circle after going two innings, giving up three hits while allowing two unearned runs.
Garden pitched five strong innings of relief after not allowing a run, giving up one hit, walking none and striking out eight.

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis broke through in the opening frame after scoring four runs in the inning.
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) started the scoring after reaching on an error that scored Garden.
Powell made it 2-0 after her RBI single to center scored Hoffman.
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) extended the lead to 3-0 after reaching on a fielding error by New Haven.
Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill.) drove home the fourth run of the frame after hitting into a fielder's choice which scored
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge). Both teams were off the scoreboard in the second, third and fourth innings.
Powell came through with a big hit in the fifth with a two-run single to left, driving home Kmak and Wuske which made it 8-0. The Chargers got one back in the bottom half to cut into the deficit at 8-1.
A couple innings later, Bontrager got that run back for Lewis as the outfielder drove Hoffman home with her RBI single to right center. New Haven got two runs back in the bottom of the frame but the Flyers were able to hang on and win 8-3.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (5-0) recorded the complete game victory in the circle after seven innings of work, allowing four hits, giving up three runs, issuing two walks and striking out seven.
