ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team swept its doubleheader against William Jewell Monday (March 25). The Flyers shutout the Cardinals in the first game, 1-0, then the second 8-0 in five innings.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning before Lewis was able to score in the second inning.
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) started the second inning with a single,
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) sacrificed her over to second,
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) singled then
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) hit a sacrifice fly to right which scored Bontrager to make it 1-0.
William Jewell looked to rally in the seventh inning after putting runners on third and second with one out.
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) was able to escape damage and gave Lewis the victory after throwing back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Garden (10-2) recorded her fourth straight complete game shutout. Garden tossed a four-hitter, walking none and striking out 12.

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis struck first in the opening inning after Garden led off the frame with a single, a couple batters later,
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) singled then
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) drove home
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) with a RBI single to make it 1-0. Powell scored on that same single as William Jewell had a miscue to make it 2-0.
The next inning, the Flyers were able to double its lead to make it 4-0. Garden ripped a two-RBI double to left which scored
Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill.) and
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) after both of them singled which made it 4-0.
Lewis opened up the game in the fourth inning with a three spot which made it 7-0. Wuske started the fourth with a single then
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) drove her home with a RBI double to make it 5-0.
Garden extended the lead out to 6-0 after her single up the middle scored Nilles from second. Powell made it 7-0 after hitting a single to right which scored Garden.
The Flyers would go on to walk off via mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth to win the contest 8-0.
Kenzie Murdock (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way Central High School) started the frame with a pitch hit double to center, Kmak reached on a fielding error to make it runners on the corners then Nilles recorded a RBI single to right on the first pitch to score Murdock to win it.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (8-0) threw a complete game shutout as well as the sophomore tossed all five innings, allowing only one hit, issuing no walks and striking out six.
