ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Maryville at Lewis Softball Field Saturday (April 13). The Flyers won the first game in walk-off fashion, 1-0, then won the second 4-3.
GAME 1: Lewis 1, Maryville 0

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Both teams did not score in the first six innings. Lewis had a chance to score in the fourth inning after getting a pair of bases runners but were unable to bring a run across the plate.
Lewis was able to walk off in the seventh inning and win it 1-0.
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) and
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) walked then
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) ripped a RBI double to left center which plated
Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill./) to walk it off.
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) (12-5) recorded the win in the circle after pitching a complete game shutout. The junior threw seven innings, allowing only three hits, issuing one walk and striking out three.

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis was able to start the scoring right away in the opening inning with a run in the first. Garden singled to center,
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) sacrificed her over to second then
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) drove home Garden on a RBI single to left center to make it 1-0.
Maryville tied it at 1-1 in the next half inning with a solo shot to left. Lewis was able to respond in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run frame for a 4-1 lead.
Calderon scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1, then two batters later, Hoffman hit a two-run single which scored Nilles and Graham to make it 4-1. The Saints got one run back in the third and fifth innings to cut it down to one.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (12-1) threw a complete game as well. The sophomore tossed seven innings, scattering seven hits, allowing three runs, walking one and striking out three.

Lewis softball will be back in action Sunday (April 14) as the Flyers host Missouri S&T for a GLVC doubleheader starting at noon CT. It will be Lewis' Alumni Game and Rae Strong Game.
