INDIANAPOLIS – The Lewis University softball team saw its season come to an end as the Flyers lost to No. 1 seed Indianapolis 1-0 in eight innings for the NCAA II Midwest Regional One Championship Saturday (May 11).

GAME SUMMARY
Indianapolis had the first real threat of the contest which came in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles with one out but
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) was able to back-to-back outs to get out of it.
Lewis also threatened in the next half inning after
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) singled then Garden reached on a fielder's choice to make it two on and one out. The Greyhounds escaped further damage and got back-to-back outs.
UIndy looked to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth after a double and a single made it runners on third and second with one out. Garden was able to escape damage again by getting back-to-back outs to end the inning.
The Flyers looked to take the lead in the seventh after getting two on base but the Greyhounds got out of it. Indianapolis loaded the bases in the seventh inning with one out but Garden escaped the jam with back-to-back outs.
Lewis went down one-two-three in the eighth inning. Indianapolis walked off in the bottom of the eighth frame with a solo shot from Emily O'Connor to win it 1-0.
Garden (18-10) recorded the setback in the circle after going seven innings, allowing eight hits, walking none and striking out five.
Lewis finishes the season 40-17 and made its second straight NCAA II Midwest Regional Championship.
