On to the Finals! Lewis Men's Lacrosse Beats Indianapolis in GLVC Semifinal Thursday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The (1) Lewis University men's lacrosse team won, 13-9, over (4) Indianapolis Thursday (May 2) at Lewis Stadium in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament semifinal.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 4, UIndy 2
Lewis struck first as McLean found the back of the net just 1:10 into the game. UIndy struck back at the 12:20 mark to tie it at one goal apiece.

The Flyers scored the next two goals as Andrew Schermerhorn (Appleton, Wisconsin/St. Francis Xavier HS / Canisius College) found Dalep, then Boyenko assisted Schermerhorn to make it 3-1 Lewis. The Greyhounds scored one more goal before Dalep scored again off of an assist from Clement to make it 4-2 Flyers after the first.

Rathe collected three saves in the opening period.

SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 4, UIndy 3
Indianapolis scored in the opening minute of the second quarter to get within one, but Lewis scored the next two goals to take a 6-3 advantage. Dominic Bravata (Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern HS) assisted Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, Minnesota/Totino-Grace HS) for the first score, then McLean scored unassisted for the second.

Both teams went back-and-forth from there, with UIndy scoring before Michael Metheny (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern HS) found Bravata to make it 7-4. The Greyhounds scored one more goal before Lewis scored again as Boyenko found Clement for the score to make it 8-5 at halftime.

Rathe made five saves in the second quarter to help the Flyers earn the lead.

THIRD QUARTER: UIndy 2, Lewis 1
The third quarter was controlled by defense, as Indianapolis was first to score at the 10:22 mark in the frame. McLean answered for Lewis at the 7:04 mark, but UIndy scored again with just over three minutes left in the period to make it 9-7 heading to the fourth quarter.

Rathe was outstanding in the third quarter, making eight saves in the frame.

FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 4, UIndy 2
The Flyers scored first in the final period as Clement found Metheny with 12:35 to play. The Greyhounds answered with a goal at the 9:34 mark but Lewis answered just 34 seconds later as Clement found Dalep for the score to push the lead to 11-8.

UIndy scored one more goal with 6:22 remaining, but the Flyers slammed the door on any comeback attempt by scoring the last two goals of the game. Dalep set up Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, Minnesota/Totino-Grace HS) to make it a three-goal game with just over five minutes remaining before Layne Kology (Hanover, Minnesota/Buffalo HS) got onto the score sheet with an assist from Clement to make it 13-9 for the final.

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 13, Indianapolis 9
