ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team outscored Southwest Baptist 45-22 in the second half as the Flyers defeated the Bearcats 77-53 Thursday (Jan. 23).

GAME SUMMARY
Vanderheydt started the contest with a three-pointer for the early lead. Southwest Baptist responded with five straight points to make it 5-3.
Lewis responded with back-to-back baskets, including an and-one from Renfro to regain the lead. The Bearcats grabbed a 20-18 lead with 6:41 remaining.
The Flyers went on to score nine unanswered in the next two-plus minutes, capped off by a layup from Gibson to make it 29-20 with 4:24 left in the half. Southwest Baptist closed out the half on a 11-3 run, including a tip-in as time expired, which made it a one-point game at the break.
The second half started with a dunk from Stroud from Renfro. Southwest Baptist knocked down a three-pointer to tie it at 34-34.
Moments later, Lewis built out its lead until Southwest Baptist made it as close as 41-40 Lewis with 13:53 remaining in the game. Lewis went on a 22-2 run in seven minutes which built out a 21-point lead with 6:55 in the contest.
Vanderheydt knocked down which would be the dagger with 6:55 remaining. Southwest Baptist made it 69-50 in favor of Lewis with 2:58 remaining.
Lewis knocked down back-to-back threes by Warden and
Cale Cosme (Chicago, IL/Brother Rice) to put the game out of reach with 1:21 in the game. The Flyers won the contest 77-53.
