Rolla, Mo. – The Lewis University women's soccer team scored twice in the final ten minutes to storm back for a 2-1 road win over Missouri S&T at Allgood-Bailey Stadium Sunday afternoon
With the win, the Flyers improved to 5-1-5 (4-1-3 GLVC) while the Miners slipped to 5-5-1 (3-4-1 GLVC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams created early chances, but Lewis' back line, led by
Josie Graziosi (Galena, OH/Big Walnut) (Galena, OH/Big Walnut) in goal, held strong against consistent pressure from the Miners' offense to keep the game level heading into halftime.
Missouri S&T struck first in the 73rd minute to grab a 1-0 lead thanks to a marker from Nathalie Bello. Still, Lewis answered in the 84th minute as
Anna Larson (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) broke through the Miners defense and put the ball into the back of the net to tie the match with her second goal of the year. The Flyers weren't done as just 52 seconds later,
Breanna Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Wisconsin-Milwaukee) capitalized on a rebound inside the box to bury the game-winner and complete the comeback. Lewis' defense shut down Missouri S&T in the final minutes, turning away multiple attempts to secure the 2-1 comeback victory.
Lewis narrowly outshot the Miners 12-11, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Both keepers finished with two saves each. The Flyers earned three corner kicks, while Missouri S&T had five. The contest was physical throughout, with three yellow cards issued and 15 total fouls.
