Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The Flyers dropped their second straight game against a GLIAC opponent on Friday (Nov. 15), falling to Northern Michigan in another NCAA Division II Midwest Tip-Off match up.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Northern Michigan was led by Sarah Newcomer, who paced the Wildcats with a 16-point, 4-rebound, 2-assist line. Jacy Weisbrod (14) and Alyssa Hill (13) were the only other Wildcats in double figures and Northern Michigan finished with nine different scorers.
For Lewis,
Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) delivered a career game, setting new highs with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals in 28 minutes while shooting 9-of-13 from the field, 1-of-2 from three and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, IL/Loyola-Chicago) also reached double digits with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flyers opened the game with their first two baskets coming from beyond the arc, courtesy of Ramage and Jones. Northern Michigan methodically found offense early and took a 9-6 lead before Cesarini answered with two baskets to give Lewis a 10-9 advantage. Jones finished an and-1 sequence to push the Flyers ahead 15-13 after the first ten minutes.
Lewis managed just six points in the second quarter and 11 in the third, entering the fourth trailing 51-32.
A late surge in the fourth saw the Flyers outscore the Wildcats 22-15; a nine-point run brought Lewis within 10 with just under seven minutes remaining, and back-and-forth buckets from Jones and
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) cut the deficit to nine. That was as close as Lewis would get, however, as Northern Michigan added insurance points down the stretch to secure a 66-54 victory.
GAME NOTES
- The Loss now brings the Flyers all time record against Northern Michigan to 4-7.
- Through the weekend, the Flyers are averaging 54.5 points, 31 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals and 0 blocks per game as a team.
- Bueno and Cesarini are currently tied for total points scored over the weekend with 26 apiece, while Cesarini leads the team in rebounds (12) and assists (4).
