Lebanon, Ill. - Despite holding a 16-10 advantage in total shots, the #7 seeded Lewis University women's soccer team saw their 2025 season come to an end in the first round of the GLVC Tournament with a 1-0 extra time loss to the #2 seeded and No. 24 nationally ranked McKendree Bearcats Sunday afternoon at Leemon Field.
With the win, the Bearcats improved to 12-1-5 and will advance to the semifinal of the GLVC Tournament while the Flyers see their year end with an overall record of 7-6-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis pestered the McKendree defense early on with three shots on target, all of which were turned away. The two sides exchanged shots the remainder of the frame, but entered halftime tied, 0-0.
The second half was all Lewis as the Flyers held the Bearcats to just two shots, both off target, while they fired nine of their own.
Jada Harvey (Roscoe, Ill./Rockford Christian) nearly sealed the match at the 89:46 mark with her fifth shot of the day, but it was saved by McKendree's Peyton Barker to force extra time.
Maddie Mauch sealed the win for McKendree in the extra frame as she collected her earlier shot and sent it into the back of the net for the game-winning goal at the 91:33 mark.
Jillian Barth (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) got the start for Lewis and made five saves while Barker had seven saves for McKendree in the win.
MATCH NOTES
- Lewis played its first postseason contest since 2023.
- Barth has made five-or-more saves in three appearances this year.
- The five shots for Harvey represented the fourth time this year she has had five-or-more shots.
