Lewis Men's Basketball Narrowly Defeated by Indianapolis Thursday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  -- The Lewis University men's basketball team was unable to come away with the victory as the Flyers committed 19 turnovers as the Indianapolis Greyhounds emerged victorious 76-74 Thursday (Feb. 20).

GAME SUMMARY
UIndy jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening minute of the contest. Renfro made the next basket before the Greyhounds knocked down back-to-back threes to extend it out to 13-4 at the 17:31 mark.

Warden recorded back-to-back baskets to make it 18-14 in favor of UIndy to get Lewis back in the contest. The Greyhounds responded with a three-pointer to extend it back out to 21-14.

Stroud knocked down a three which made it 23-19 until Indianapolis hit back-to-back threes again to make it 29-19. The Flyers went on a 12-3 run capped by a three-pointer from Vanderheydt to make it a one-point contest with 3:39 before the break.

The Greyhounds responded with a three of their own to give them a 37-31 advantage. Lewis closed out the half with seven straight points including a pair of free throws by Sayles Jr. to give the Flyers a 38-37 lead.

Indianapolis opened the half on a 8-2 run giving them a 45-40 lead in the early moments of the half. Lewis responded with seven straight including a layup from Renfro which gave the Flyers a 47-45 lead at the 15:22 mark.

The Greyhounds went on another run this time it was scoring nine straight to make it 57-51 with 11:39 in the contest. Vanderheydt capped off an 11-3 run in the next five minutes for the Flyers after knocking down a three-pointer, which made it 62-60.

Cem Kirciman (Istanbul, Turkey/Wisconsin-Green Bay) knocked down a pair of free throws for Lewis, giving the Flyers a 69-67 lead with 4:26 left. That would be the last time Lewis led the rest of the way.

UIndy knocked down its free throws down the stretch and was able to walk away with a 76-74 victory.
