Lewis Women's Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Big Win Over Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa - The No. 17 Lewis University women's basketball team capped off their historic 2024-2025 regular season with another signature big win over Upper Iowa on Saturday (March 1).

GAME SUMMARY
Badali started the game for the Flyers with a layup for the first bucket of the game on their second offensive possession. Cesarini would drop layup in the bucket on the next go down the floor, with the Peacocks finally getting their first point of the game off on a lone free throw. Cesarini threw up another layup followed by a three from Cierra McNamee (Moline, Ill./Illinois Central College)

Badali went to the line and completed the and one play with Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) coming up after with good post work to get a layup to fall. Badali would continue to get the ball into the nylon with two back to back mid range jumpers. Gugliuzza got her first points of the game off a free throw before quarter end to make it a 19-9 game. 

Sammi Campanelli (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) hit a layup which would start the second quarter followed a few minutes later by a Gugliuzza jumper to give Lewis a 23-11 lead. Gugliuzza would next hit a three off of a Badali assist. Nunnally had a stretch of five points off of two free throws and a three followed by a Gugliuzza layup to give the Flyers a 20 point lead. 

Right before halftime Badali and Bueno would have a short burst of offense to send the Flyers into the locker room with an even larger lead. Bueno would hit two threes and Badali would have a three and a mid range jumper to go along with it. At half the Flyers were up 44-21.

It took the Flyers a few offensive possessions to get a shot to fall in the third but finally Cesarini from the line would give Lewis 45. Gugliuzza would drop back to back threes followed by a Cesarini jumper. 

Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) threw a few points on the scoreboard with two layups, a and a hook shot to round out the scoring for the Flyers in the third, with a score of 65-35.

Players off the bench for the Flyers carried the rest of the game through the fourth quarter for the Flyers. Mercy Lasu (Winnipeg, Canada/D'Youville) would go one for teo from the line followed by an Ana Haklicka (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Chicago State) layup. Alayna Soukup (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) pulled down a defensive board and went the other way for a layup on the other end of the floor. Lasu would have a clean jumper and a two threes to add to her fourth quarter stats. The Flyers went into their final regular season buzzer of the year with a score of 84-58. 

UP NEXT
Lewis will be back in action for the GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament set for Thursday, March 6-Sunday, March 9. The Flyers drew the No. 1 seed after winning the regular season title and will take on No. 8 seed Truman State Thursday, March 6 starting at 6 p.m. CT.
