ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team claimed another conference series sweep on Saturday (March 22) with two wins over Southwest Baptist. The Flyers won the first game 9-2 then took the second 12-2 in five frames.

Head Coach Becky Pearl
"I am very proud of our team and the energy they came out with today. Our goal is to play the best softball we can each day and I felt today we did a nice job achieving that goal. It was a complete team effort."

GAME 1: Lewis 9, Southwest Baptist 2

TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 22-11, 8-1 GLVC | Southwest Baptist 12-17, 6-5 GLVC

SUMMARY
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) led off the Flyers in the bottom of the first with a single to center field. She scored two batters later when a Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) single up the middle advanced Garden home.

Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) scored in the second after being hit by a pitch and brought home by a ball put in play by Garden. Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, IL/Providence Catholic High School) reached on an error followed by a wild pitch that allowed Garden score. A Graham double to left field scored Magdziasz, making it a 4-0 nothing game.

Jensen led the bottom of the third off with a single to center and worked her way around the bases in order to score on a Garden single to center as well.

The Bearcats scored two runs in the top of the fourth off of a fielder's choice which brought home two runs.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, a Mackenzie Sheehan (Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove) hit by pitch, A Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central High School) single to third, and a Garden single to center the Flyers to push home three more runs to make it a 8-2 game. The final run of the game came off the bat of Kmak landing deep in the trees for a solo home run.

Delaney notched in another win and made a case for GLVC Pitcher of the Week with a 10 strikeout, two walk, three hit outing.
