CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Five of the Flyers' six winter sports scored points at the NCAA Tournament which allowed
Lewis Athletics to finish in fifth place with 445 total points in the NCAA Division II Learfield Directors' Cup winter sports standings. The Flyers finished in sixth place during the fall update with 238 total points. The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup trophy, commonly known as the all-sports trophy, is presented to the top athletic department in the country each year.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Division II Championships. Overall, 15 sports are counted in the final D-II standings. The five sports for which Lewis received scoring are Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball, Men's Swimming, Women's Indoor Track and Field and Men's Indoor Track and Field.
The standings are based on the next highest (11 max) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender.
The women's basketball team recorded 25 points for the Flyers after qualifying for its second straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearance by receiving an at-large bid. The team finished in 33rd place overall.
The men's swimming team added 72 points after eight swimmers (Mahmoud Adelkarim, Juan Jose Castro, Valentin De Frutos, Matt Howard, Nico Jacinto, Tom Thalau, River Streefland and Davidson Vincent) qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships while the team finished in seventh place during the meet.
The women's indoor track and field team sent three athletes to the NCAA Division II Championships - Denise Hernandez, Brynlee Keeran and Hannah Smrcka, with the team finishing in 17th place, giving Lewis 57 points.
The men's indoor track and field team picked up 53 points for the Flyers after also sending three athletes to the NCAA Division II Championships - Enoch Antwi, Levi Graham and Evan Horgan, with the team finishing tied for 18th place.
