#13 Lewis Men’s Lacrosse Falls to #11 Maryville in GLVC Championship Game Saturday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 13 and third seeded Lewis University men's lacrosse team lost to No. 11, top seed and host Maryville 9-8 in the Men's Lacrosse Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship Saturday (May 3).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: (3) Lewis 2, (1) Maryville 0
Lewis scored the first four goals of the contest including two in the first quarter. Good recorded the first goal of the contest for an early 1-0 lead. 
 
The Flyers extended their lead to 2-0 following a man-up opportunity after Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, Minnesota/Totino-Grace HS) passed it inside to Camden Rappis (Delafield, Wisconsin/Kettle Moraine HS) for the score. Donahue made seven saves in the opening period. 
 
SECOND QUARTER (1) Maryville 4, (3) Lewis 2
Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic HS) started the second with a goal, making it 3-0 in the first 1:21 off a pass from Metheny. Dominic Bravata (Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern HS) passed the ball to Good for another goal, extending the Lewis lead to 4-0 at the 11:58 mark. 
 
Maryville responded with four unanswered goals to close out the half. The score was tied 4-4 heading into the halftime break. 
 
THIRD QUARTER: (3) Lewis 2, (1) Maryville 2
Lewis won the opening faceoff to start the second half then Suchy passed it to Metheny who gave it to Schroeder and he scored, giving the Flyers a 5-4 advantage. Maryville tied the contest 5-5 with the next goal less than two minutes later.
 
Good gave Lewis back the lead at 6-5 after receiving the pass from Rappis for the hat trick. The Saints responded with a goal of their own, tying it again at 6-6. 
 
FOURTH QUARTER: (3) Lewis 2, (1) Maryville 2
Good started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a pair of goals including one in the opening 56 seconds of the period for a 7-6 lead. He scored another goal at the 8:14 mark, extending the lead to 8-6.
 
Maryville scored the next two goals at the 3:36 and 0:57 marks on the clock, tying the game at 8-8. 
 
OVERTIME: (1) Maryville 1, (3) Lewis 0
Maryville scored the game-winning goal with 1:48 remaining in overtime to clinch the victory and win 9-8.
 
FINAL SCORE: (1) Maryville 9, (3) Lewis 8

No. 11 Lewis will await its NCAA Division II Tournament fate during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 4 starting at 6:30 p.m. CT on www.ncaa.com. In the latest South Region Rankings, the men's lacrosse team was ranked eighth with the top eight teams advancing from both the north and south regions.
