Daytona Beach, Fla. - Lewis opened the Embry-Riddle Invitational with a 3-0 sweep against Clark Atlanta on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis started the first set out strong leading 5-0 with freshman
Ann Kelly Velikov (Orvault, France/C.E.N.S.) leading the way with two kills. Clark Atlanta tried to make a late comeback; but ultimately were never able to string along enough points as the Flyers took the first set, 25-8.
The Flyers started off strong in the second set once again but scoring the first four points of the frame. Lewis never let their lead slip and used a 12-1 scoring spurt in the middle of the stanza to take the frame, 25-11 and move ahead, 2-0.
Both sides traded points to begin he final frame, but the Flyers broke away as they used a 9-1 spurt to jump ahead 16-7. Despite a late scoring run from the Panthers, the Flyers notched back-to-back points off a kill from
Rachel Kaczorowski (Carpentersville, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) and a Panthers attack error to win, 25-14 and seal the sweep victory.
Jasmine Moore led the Panthers with six kills. Nakayla James had a total of 11 kills, contributing to the team's total kills of 17. On the defensive side of the ball, Christen Maloney attributed eight digs. The Panthers ended the match hitting at a clip of .028 (17-15-72).
Marin Grossman (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) and
Sarah Newberry (Fairfield, Ohio/Stephen T Badin) lead Lewis with seven kills each while freshman,
Kaileigh Krawiec (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) had 10 assists. Junior
Elena Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) topped off seven digs to help secure the three-set victory. Lewis ended the match with a hitting percentage of .407 (43-8-86).
MATCH NOTES
- Lewis had more than a 10-point lead at the end of each set against the Panthers. It marked the first time all year the Flyers won all three sets by 10-or-more points.
- The Flyers hit at a season-best .600 in the first set.
- Lewis has now held an opponent to a sub-.100 hitting percentage for two consecutive matches.
- Grossman's seven kills are a career-high.

Lewis will play #11 Barry University in the second day of the Embry-Riddle Invitational on Sept. 20 at 11:00 AM (EST).
