FAYETTE, Iowa - The Lewis University women's basketball team picked up its sixth straight win Saturday (Jan. 10) with a 65-53 win over Upper Iowa in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest. The win moves the Flyers to 8-6 overall, 4-2 in the GLVC.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) tallied 25 points and four steals to lead Lewis.
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) added 20 points and
Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) added 10 points.
Gabi Hoover (Mishawaka, Ind./La Lumiere) led the Flyers with nine rebounds.
Ellie Foster had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Peacocks (8-7, 4-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks scored the first four points of the game, but the Flyers responded with the next eight points behind a pair of baskets from Cesarini. A 7-0 spurt later in the first quarter helped the Flyers lead 17-11 after one.
Upper Iowa hit a three-pointer to pull within three points at 17-14, but the Flyers again responded with eight straight points and went on a 15-1 run overall to take a 32-15 lead. A Peacock basket made it 32-17 at the half.
Lewis built an 18-point lead on multiple occasions in the third quarter, with the latest being at 42-24. Upper Iowa came back with a 14-4 run to get to within eight points at 46-38. A Ramage layup brought the lead back to double digits at 48-38 at the end of the third quarter.
The Peacocks got to within five points at 52-47 with 3:58 left in the game. However, Cesarini (7) and Nunnally (6) combined to score the final 13 points for Lewis to pull away.
GAME NOTES
- Cesarini's 25 points are a career-high, topping the 21 points she had against Drury on Feb. 1, 2025.
- Cesarini continued her record streak of four or more steals in a game to now eight in a row.
- The Flyers have won at least six games in a row for the fifth straight season.
- Lewis held Upper Iowa to 17-of-53 shooting (32.1%).Â
