HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 61-43 with 6:36 to play, the Flyers began their late comeback effort as a McCrear hook shot served as the start of a 10-0 Lewis run that brought them to within eight, 61-53, with 4:24 to play. A Lightbourne basket for the Cardinals broke up the Lewis run, but the Flyers tallied back-to-back baskets from Fisher to bring the game to within six, 63-57 at the 2:32 mark.
Still, the hosts comeback effort fell short as they were limited to just one bucket the remainder of the way while William Jewell notched five scores of their own to escape Romeoville with a 68-60 victory.
Earlier in the contest, the Flyers and Cardinals traded buckets to open the contest but a 15-0 run that featured five consecutive 3-pointers from William Jewell made it a 32-19 contest. The visitors never slowed down and entered the locker room with a 40-29 advantage.
Out of the break, the Cardinals continued to push the tempo of the game and scored seven of the first time points of the frame. Down 50-32 midway through the second half after, a pair of
Timofei Komissarov (St. Petersburg, Russia/GUTID) free-throw makes sparked a short 9-4 run that made it a 54-41 contest with 8:54 to play. The visiting Cardinals replied with a 7-2 run of their own and extended their lead back to nearly 20, 61-43 at the 6:36 mark, setting the stage for the Flyers late surge.
