HOW IT HAPPENED
After dropping the first set, the Flyers came out strong to begin the second as a UIndy attack error sparked a 5-0 run that vaulted Lewis ahead, 10-5. Despite an ensuing Greyhounds run that trimmed the Flyers' advantage to one, 11-10, Lewis responded as another UIndy attack error sparked a 5-1 spurt that gave the Red and White a 16-11 edge.
Despite leading midway through the set, the Flyers saw the Greyhounds chip away at their advantage. A late 8-2 run, highlighted by three kills from Lynch, flipped the script and put UIndy ahead, 24-22. Lewis responded with back-to-back kills from
Peyton Benhoff (Breese, Ill./Breese Central) and
Hadley Rogge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) to tie the set, 24-24. Still, the hosts pulled away with consecutive kills from Allison Jansen and Maddie Berger to secure the 26-24 second set win and take a 2-0 match lead.
In the final frame, the Greyhounds scored 10 of the first 13 points and posted a .344 (14-3-32) hitting percentage to win, 25-14, and seal the sweep.
