INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lewis University Women's Basketball team came back from back-to-back losses to defeat Indianapolis 63-56 Saturday (Feb. 21) at Nicoson Hall. The Flyers move to 16-10 overall, 12-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Greyhounds fall to 5-21 overall, 4-14 in the GLVC.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Lewis.
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) contributed 18 points and five steals, while
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) dished out five assists.
Patricia Chiamba scored 22 points to lead the Greyhounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Indianapolis had control of the game early, leading 12-6 midway through the first quarter. The lead grew to as many as nine points at 18-9 with three minutes left and the Greyhounds led 20-13 after one quarter.
The Greyhounds led 22-14 early in the second quarter when the Flyers made their run.They scored 10 straight points to take the lead and went on a 16-4 run overall to take a 30-26 lead. A pair of Greyhound free throws before half made it 30-28 Lewis at the half.Â
A 7-0 Flyer run early in the third quarter helped them pull ahead 39-31 with 6:54 remaining in the quarter. Indianapolis got back to within a basket at 40-38 but a Ramage basket gave the Flyers a 42-38 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Lewis pulled ahead 51-45 with 6:35 remaining, but a 10-3 Greyhound run game them a 55-54 lead with 3:09 left. The Flyers answered with the next nine points to put the game away as a steal and layup by Cesarini with 15 seconds left clinched the win.
GAME NOTES
- It was the seventh game this year Ramage scored at least 20 points.
- Cesarini has had five or more steals seven times this year.
- Lewis forced 25 turnovers in the contest, while committing just 13, which helped lead to a 65-44 shot advantage.
