Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team picked up their second shutout of the year as they blanked Roosevelt, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at Brennan Field
With the win, the Flyers improved to 9-16 while the Lakers dipped to 8-15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flyers struck first as with a runner on base in the bottom of the second,
Blake Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Plainfield South) connected on a pitched that he sent over the outfield wall to open the scoring and make it a 2-0 ballgame.
In the bottom of the third, the Flyers added another run as
Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) crossed home plate after a
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) sacrifice fly.
Lewis put the contest away for good in the bottom of the fifth as
Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) grounded out to bring home Daugherty before an error from the Lakers catcher during the next Flyers at bat allowed
Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) to steal home and make it a 5-0 ballgame.
Lewis added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning courtesy of a
Brian Twomey (Brookfield, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) sacrifice fly and Gonzelez home run to secure the 7-0 win.

The Flyers return to action on Friday at 2 p.m. against GLVC rival Truman State in the first game of the four game series.
