Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team ended their weekend on a high note as they defeated Truman State 7-2 and 16-6 to win their third consecutive game.
GAME ONE
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Flyers got on the board as
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC)Â grounded out but advanced
Daniel O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) to home, tying the contest. Moments later,
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) singled, bringing in
Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) to move Lewis ahead, 2-0.Â
The Bulldogs tied the game in the very next half inning as
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) homered to center field.Â
Lewis took the lead for good in the bottom of the third as Chaltin used a sac fly to bring inÂ
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) and make it a 3-2 ballgame.Â
The Flyers continued to push in the next inning as Daugherty singled up the middle, bringing home Constantine Coins and making it a 4-2 ballgame. Phommachanhom accounted for both runs in the fifth as he advanced home on a balk and tripled to drive in
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) to seal the 7-2 win.Â
GAME TWO
Lewis wasted no time getting on the board in game two, erupting for three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Coins delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to score
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and
Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg), and
Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) followed with an RBI single to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
The Flyers continued to build momentum in the third. After a wild pitch brought home a run,
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) came through with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.
Truman State got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth, but Lewis answered again in the fifth.
Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) launched a two-run home run to right center, pushing the advantage to 8-1.
The Flyers broke the game wide open in the sixth inning with a five-run explosion.
Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) delivered a two-RBI double before
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) capped the inning with a three-run
home run to extend the lead to 13-2.
Truman State attempted a late rally in the seventh, scoring four runs, but Lewis quickly responded in the bottom half. The Flyers plated three more runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Phommachanhom and a sacrifice fly by
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), to secure the 16-6 victory.

The Flyers return to action on Thursday, April 2, traveling to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
