St. Louis, Mo. - Aaris Stolte's walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning pushed Maryville past the Lewis University baseball team, 4-3, Friday evening at Weber Baseball Field.
With the win, the Saints, who are also ranked 10th in the latest NCBWA Midwest Region Poll, improved to 20-14 (14-3 GLVC), while the Flyers see their six-game winning streak snapped and have their record changed to 15-18 (8-7 GLVC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints struck first in the bottom of the first as Jack Meyer doubled to right center to bring in Jace Burton for the first run of the day.
Lewis replied in the top of the third as
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) tripled to right field, bringing home
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) and tying the game at one.
The Flyers took the lead for the first time in the contest in the top of the fourth as
Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) singled to center field and snagged a pair of RBI with
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and
Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) both crossing home plate, opening up a 3-1 lead for the Flyers.
Justin Gorski turned the tied for Maryville as he secured RBI in the bottom of the fifth and ninth inning to tie the game, 3-3 and send it to extras. In the bonus frame, the Saints were able to complete the comeback as Stolte connected on his fourth pitch of his at-bat, sending the ball over the outfield wall to seal the 4-3 walk-off win.
Lewis'
Carter Endisch (Pewaukee, Wis./) was charged with the loss while Blake Sivak earned his fifth win of the year for the Saints.
