Jefferson City, Mo. - The Lewis University women's softball team took game two from Lincoln, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at LU Softball Field. In game one, Lincoln won, 12-7.
With the split, the Flyers record moved to 21-18 (10-7 GLVC) while the Tigers record shifted to 19-19 (5-14 GLVC).
GAME ONE
It was all Lincoln to start the contest as they plated three runs in the first inning and two in the second to command a 5-0 lead after two frames. Lewis cracked the scoreboard for the first time all afternoon in the top of the third as
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) doubled down the left field line, bringing home
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) for the Flyers first run of the day.
The red and white flipped the script in the top half of the next inning as
Jozlynn Pacheco (/Argo Community) and Magdziasz each collected an RBI to trim the deficit down to two, 5-3. After a walk loaded the bases,
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) put Lewis ahead for the first time all afternoon as she ripped a double into center field that cleared the bags and made it a 6-5 ballgame.
Still, the visitors lead would be short lived as in the bottom of the fourth inning, Reese Smith singled up the middle to bring home the first of Lincoln's five runs that put them in front for good, 10-5.
Despite a Pacheco RBI in the top of the fifth, Lincoln added two more runs and kept Lewis scoreless in the final two frames to secure the 12-7 win.
Jaedin Blankenship earned the win in the circle for Lincoln, doing 1.2 innings of work.
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) was charged with the loss, pitching 5.0 frames and notching three strike outs.
GAME TWO
Down 2-0 after two innings, Lewis took the lead as a
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) sacrifice hit drove in the Flyers first run of the second game. After a wild pitched scored Pacheco to tie the game, Graham doubled to right center field to bring home her fellow senior Hoffman and make it a 3-2 ballgame in favor of Lewis.
Lincoln again had an answer to the Flyers as with a runner one base, Kierra O'Rourke sent a ball over the left field wall to regain the lead for the hosts, 4-3.
In the top of the fourth, Berkshire ripped a double into center field to bring home
Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) and tie the game, 4-4.
Lewis took the lead for good in the top of the fifth as
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied her sxith triple of the year to clear the bases and make it a 5-4 contest.
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) added some insurance with an RBI single later in the frame to help the Flyers seal the 6-4 game two win.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) earned the victory for the Flyers, going the distance and only allowing six hits. Abby Pulliam was charged with the loss, going 6.0 frames and allowing six runs.
