KENOSHA, Wis. – The Lewis University softball team dropped a pair of nonconference games to Wisconsin Parkside Wednesday (April 22), losing 6-2 and 3-2. The Flyers fall to 21-21 on the season, while the Rangers move to 20-24.
GAME 1: Parkside 6, Lewis 2
The Rangers built a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of home runs from Mia Johnson. Lewis got on the board in the top of the fifth as an
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) single scored
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South). A
Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) single then scored
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) to make it 3-2.
However, Parkside came back with three more runs in the bottom half in the fifth on a pair of home runs, including a third from Johnson. The Flyers had a chance to get back in the game in the sixth after a single from Jensen and double from Graham but runners on second and third with two outs, but a line out ended the threat. Lewis went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
Jensen led the way on offense with three hits, while
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Kohnhorst each had two hits. The Flyers left 11 runners on base. Holly Lowenberg (7-6) picked up the win, allowing three hits while striking out four in four innings.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) (9-5) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and six earned runs in 4.2 innings.
GAME 2: Parkside 3, Lewis 2
After a scoreless first four innings, the Rangers took the lead with a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, including Johnson's fourth home run of the day and 16
th of the season to make it 3-0.
Lewis rallied in the top of the seventh as a Kohnhorst single drove home
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) and Jensen to make it 3-2 with two runners on and two out. A groundout to first base ended the game.
Magdziasz reached base four times in the game with two hits and two walks. Casey Jo Vermett (12-7) earned the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs in seven innings, striking out seven but giving up nine walks.
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) (8-12) took the loss, allowing six hits and three earned runs in six innings.

The Flyers return home to take on Maryville Saturday at noon.
