ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 16 McKendree Sunday (April 26), falling 9-0 and 5-3. The Flyers fall to 21-25 overall, 10-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while McKendree moves to 36-12 overall, 17-7 in the GLVC.
GAME 1: McKendree 9, Lewis 0
After a scoreless first two innings, the Bearcats got on the board in the top of the third on a single and added four more runs in the fourth inning on a grand slam by Lauren Harris to make it 5-0. They added another run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) had the lone hit for the Flyers. Sami Huck (19-6) earned the win, allowing one hit and two walks over seven innings, striking out 10 batters.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) (9-6) took the loss, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in 3.1 innings.
GAME 2: McKendree 5, Lewis 3
The Bearcats scored two runs in the third inning to take the early lead. Harris belted her second home run on the day in the fifth inning and Paisley Twait followed with a two-run home run later in the inning to make it 5-0.
Lewis got on the board for the first time on the day when
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) belted a three-run home run, scoring
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School).
The Flyers threatened again in the seventh, bringing up the potential winning run to the plate with two runners on, but a double play ended the game.
Ellie Vetter (12-5) earned the win for the Bearcats, allowing four hits and three earned runs in 5.2 innings, while Olivia Tipton picked up the save.
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) (9-14) suffered the loss, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs over seven innings.

The Flyers travel to Springfield Saturday to take on the Prairie Stars with the first game scheduled for noon.
