Baseball Ends Season with Loss on Senior Day

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team saw its 2026 campaign come to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to UIndy, 16-4, on Senior Day.

The Flyers ended the year with a 21-28 (13-15 GLVC) record while the Greyhounds qualified the postseason and sw their record improve to 31-19 (22-10 GLVC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Austin Bode got the scoring started in the top of the second as he singled into left field which helped drive in Joey Humphrey for the first run of the day.

Lewis took the lead for the first time in the contest as with two runners on, Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) blasted a ball over the right field wall to clear the bases and propel the hosts ahead, 3-2.

The Greyhounds snagged the lead for good in the top of the fourth as with the bases loaded, Bode notched his first grand slam of the weekend, making it a 5-3 ballgame. Down 6-3 in the top of the fifth, Bode again sent a ball over the outfield wall, this time a three-run home run, to expand the Greyhounds lead to six, 9-3.

Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) got a run back for the Flyers in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a sacrifice fly, making it a 9-4 contest.

Still, UIndy kept Lewis scoreless the remainder of the afternoon and added in run support in the sixth and seventh inning to seal the 16-4, seven inning win.

Ryan O'Born earned the win for UIndy, going six innings and allowing four runs and seven hits while notching three strikeouts. Luke Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) was charged with the loss, pitching three innings while being charged for four runs and tallying two punch outs.
