INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lewis University softball team ended its season Sunday (May 3) with a pair of losses to No. 2 Indianapolis, 11-2 and 10-1. The Flyers end their season 21-29 overall, 10-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Greyhounds move to 53-3 overall, 27-1 in the GLVC.
GAME 1: Indianapolis 11, Lewis 2
The Greyhounds built a 9-0 lead before the Flyers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township)Â homered to left field, scoring
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School). Indianapolis came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and the game ended in the top of the fifth after the Flyers were unable to score.
The Spodarek homer was the only hit of the game for the Flyers, who drew four walks in the contest. Cheyenne Eads (26-2) picked up with win, allowing the one hit and two earned runs over 4.1 innings, striking out four.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) (9-8) took the loss, allowing five hits and five earned runs over 1.1 innings.
GAME 2: Indianapolis 10, Lewis 1
Indianapolis jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) got the Flyers on the board with a home run in the top of the third inning to make it 3-1. However, the Greyhounds added two runs in the third and five more in the fourth inning to put the game away.
Jensen had two hits to lead the Flyer offense. Caitlin Bunte (26-1) earned the win, allowing three hits and an earned run in 4.1 innings.
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) (9-16) suffered the loss in four innings of work.
