Milwaukee, Wis.- Lewis men's soccer scored its first win of the season against Wisconsin Parkside in its last nonconference match of the season, 3-0, Monday (Aug. 31). With the result, Lewis moves to 1-1-0 while Parkside also moves to 1-1-0.
This was a rescheduled game played on a neutral site on the UW Milwaukee campus.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Antonio Sasso (Helibronn, Germany/VfB Eppingen),
Santino Moriconi (La Plata, Argentina/Colegio San Jose de La Plata), and
Aiden Durbin (Carol Stream, Ill./West Chicago) all scored goals for the Flyers.
Faustin Wilson (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) and
Joseph Munyaneza (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had assists, while
Matija Blazic (Obrenovac Beograd, Serbia/Gimnazija u Obrenovcu) made four saves in goal.
For the Rangers, Jaime Vazquez and Hudson Scheiber both had two shot attempts. Goalkeeper Mateusz Pass had a total of 10 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams battled during the first half with multiple attempts to put one in the back of the net. It wasn't until the 35th minute that Sasso was able to slip one past Pass and secure the first goal of the night for the Flyers. Immediately after, Scheiber took a shot at goal, but Blazic was able to save it, and the score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half.
The Flyers extended their lead when Moriconi found the back of the net with an assist from Wilson 20 minutes into the second half. Parkside attempted to come back with three shots, but were not able to secure a goal. Durbin finished off the scoring soon after, finding the back of the net off a pass from Muyaneza.
GAME NOTES
- Lewis had a total of 22 shots while Parkside had nine.
- Johnny Nesci (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) and Durbin both played their first full game.
- Parkside received three yellow cards, while Lewis did not receive one.
- It was the first time Lewis has won against Parkside since 2019
- The Flyers' record now sits at 13-7-6 all-time against Parkside.
